Croatia had, in the past, a strong property market for foreign investors. In the war of the early nineties property prices crashed as tourists and second home owners fled the country. Since then, however, prices have been on a steady rise as Croatia rebuilt both its economy and its reputation, meaning that the off plan property market has opened up no end in recent years, with more opportunities than ever for investors. It is simple to purchase land or property for private individuals and it is even easier for companies. It should be noted that as a former Communist state, Croatia is subject to the same potential pitfalls as other former Soviet countries and all land titles should be checked in detail to ensure legality of ownership, as reclamations can be lost and confused over time.
