Croatian roads have been subject to a massive renovation over the last ten years and as a result are of a good quality. It should be noted that areas in Eastern Slavonia and the former Krajina may contain unexploded mines left over from the war, and drivers should avoid these areas. Bus services are widespread through the country and link all major towns and cities together, as well as a great deal of the more rural regions. Services are regular and timetables are available online at the Croatian tourist board website: http://www.croatia.hr/ The Croatian rail network covers most of the country except for Dubrovnik, though it is widely regarded to be easier and more reliable to use bus services instead. Internal flights are available between a number of national and international airports within the country – Rijeka, Split, Pula and Dubrovnik are all connected via internal flights. Passenger and car ferry services are also available, connecting the mainland ports and the numerous offshore islands.
